Shindo Yoshin-ryu (新道楊心流 ), meaning
"New Way of the Willow Heart School" founded in 1864 by a Samurai Katsunosuke Matsuoka.Consists mainly of a combination of jujutsu and the type of sword work used in Kenjutsu.

He incorporated facets of many different martial arts schools into his art, but experts believe he was most heavily influenced by the traditions of Akiyama Yoshin and the Nakamura Yoshin schools. The art was instrumental in the development of Wado-ryu karate. Its underlying philosophy is that gracefulness and yielding,soft-flowing movements such as that found in nature, are ultimately more powerful and effective than the application of brute force.
